1Cook the rice and cool completely.

2Heat ghee or oil in a pan. Add cumin, mustard, dals and nuts. When the dal turns golden, add ginger, green chili, curry leaves and red chili. Sprinkle a pinch of hing.

3Add coconut, rice and salt. Turn off the heat and mix well. Ready to serve with yogurt of a simple curry.

4Comfort food. Easy, breezy and flavorful! Can be prepared in just a few minutes. Can be served by itself or along with a simple curry or curd.


1 cup Rice

1/2 cup Grated Coconut - best if from fresh coconut

1 Green Chilli

1 1/2 tbsp Ghee or Coconut Oil

1/2 tsp Mustard

1/2 tsp Cumin

1 pinch Hing (Asafoetida)

1 tbsp Chana Dal (Bengal Gram)

1 Urad Dal

1 tsp Chopped Ginger

Peanuts and Cashews - if desired
